What I Learned When I Intentionally Checked Out

I have been SUPER, SUPER busy lately. Advising and working on projects with my clients, creating new material for entrepreneurs, hosting a radio show on Business RadioX, getting my kids everywhere they need to go… I could go on and on but I will stop there …lol!

Lately things have been going so fast I couldn’t even think straight. I found myself becoming overwhelmed and pretty flighty and loopy at times. As women we just keep going and going with the weight of the world on our shoulders.

My two little boys were headed out to Jamaica with their dad for Spring Break for a week. I felt that I needed my own Spring break!  I decided to “intentionally check out” for EIGHT days. YIKES! If you know me personally you would know that it is hard for me to sit for even 30 minutes without doing anything. However, I am happy to report that I successfully completed all eight days of my intentional check-out. (Insert applause and cheers here!!) I took my time off to travel, rest, prepare my mind & spirit for revelations and do pretty much whatever the heck I wanted to do!

I spent 9 hours at a day spa in the beautiful and serene mountains of North Carolina, I went to dinner by myself, I had a mani and pedi day, I was able to visit family in Louisiana…ahhhh. I forgot what it was like to just RELAX! I was also able to see my little brother graduate from the Louisiana State Police Academy. Becoming a State Trooper had been his dream since he was 5 years old. What an honor to witness him achieve his childhood dream 🙂

In my eight days of relaxing I realized that for the last few months I have been really busy, but not successful. Busy is not always a good thing. In my solitude I learned that busy is sometimes a way to keep from focusing on what really needs to be done or to prevent from focusing on how/what we are currently feeling or experiencing in life.

The time away was a great gift to myself. It caused many revelations and new ideas for what I can do to better my clients and myself both personally and professionally. I have promised myself that I will schedule at least 90 minutes a day to just RELAX and REGROUP. It can be lounging in bed an extra 30 minutes, having a silent 30 minute lunch and 30 minute evening prayer time or it can be 90 straight minutes in the gym. However I break down the time I WILL GIVE MYSELF 90 MINUTES a day. I am certain that this will give me more clarity, more focus and LESS overwhelm.

I invite you to join me in this Intentional 90 minute a day check out. You deserve to do absolutely nothing for 90 minutes per day/ 10.5 hours per week/ 315 hours per month. Otherwise your head will ache and your brain will explode… like mine almost did 🙂

Cheers to checking out! What are you going to do to intentionally check out? Let me know below.

Why an E-Business Makes Me Happy

Have you like many others considered starting (or growing) an online business? A business owner who does any, or all, of their business using the internet, is running an online business (also known as an ebusiness).

It has become the business of choice for many boutique owners, consultants, coaches and more. There are so many benefits to having an online business. Here are my top 3 reasons:

1. Location Independence: The internet reaches across the world and spans all time zones. That means that when businesses take their operations online, they have the same capabilities. With a physical store/office, customers are limited by how close the store is and its hours of operation. Ebusinesses, on the other hand, are accessible from any area with internet access and open 24 hours a day.

The best part of that is that you as the business owner can be ANYWHERE! You can provide your services online or via phone, Skype, etc. or you can fulfill orders for products from anywhere with an internet connection. That means you can work from your home, from an office, from a local coffee shop or even from the beach!

2. Lower Overhead Costs: If you have ever owned a brick and mortar business you know the huge financial stress that places on many. The demands of paying for storage space for your merchandise, paying overhead for your office space, building out to make a place suit your needs….the list goes on and on. However with an online business the only expense you are faced with is the cost for a great website, your internet bill and a computer. Sounds pretty great, right?

3. You Stay Relevant: The internet is a big part of our lives, and isn’t showing signs of leaving anytime soon. Opening an ebusiness keeps you in touch with what’s current: it levels the playing field and gives you the resources needed to compete in today’s increasingly digital marketplace. For example, having an online presence on social media websites is a big part of getting your name out there. To stay relevant, businesses need to consistently post content on these outlets that interest their consumers. Having an online presence forces you to keep up with the changes thereby making you continuously relevant.

I started LeniseWilliams.com, an online source for female entrepreneurs, and haven’t looked back. I sell products online to people as close as Alabama to as far as Africa and Dubai. In addition I coach and consult business owners nationwide through sessions conducted via Skype or telephone. It is hard to believe that I have almost matched my salary from my brick and mortar law office in a very short time! The best part is that it gets better each and every month.

In addition to that the impact that I have had on people in multiple states and countries blows me away. None of it would be possible if I had not decided to launch an ebusiness.

Do your research and determine if it is the right move for you. You would be surprised at the impact AND the money you’d make. Generating a great income doing something that I absolutely LOVE, being home for my children and having the freedom to work from practically anywhere has changed my life…for the BETTER!

Are you ready? If you need help starting your online business I am here! I will show you everything I learned and everything I have done.

Happy Women as Entrepreneurs Day!

Yes! Just in case you did not know, we have our own DAY!!! What are you doing to celebrate YOU today? Regardless of whether you are an aspiring, new or a very well seasoned entrepreneur I congratulate you on your journey! I know what it is like to wish all that ambition, passion and all those ideas would just go away sometimes! I know what it is like to wish you were “normal” and could find happiness in a 9-5 job. I have come to accept and embrace that I was just born this way; it’s not going away.

There are so many challenges in being an entrepreneur. Time, money, space, you name it. What many do not talk about is that sense of loneliness you may feel when you are starting or growing a business. That loneliness takes root when you are sticking your neck out to do something different from what your friends and family understand. You may be trying to do something outside the box of what people find standard and stable. This desire inside of you to defy mediocre may not be something that people are grabbing their pom-poms to cheer about. But today, celebrate why you started this journey anyway! Don’t let those with limited vision blur yours!

That other pesky thing I mentioned- TIME. Do you feel like an octopus- doing some marketing, generating leads, paying bills, creating products, picking up kids, cooking dinner…the list is endless, right? Today, on YOUR DAY, take a little time to just breathe! Honestly, that is what I am doing! I am constantly helping others with their business, sharing bog posts, sharing videos, sharing emails….oh my! In the past 10 days my car has broken down and I’ve had to wait all day for a tow truck b/c none of them had the equipment to help me, I got slammed with a hefty repair bill, my son was getting in trouble at school, I was scheduled for 4 interviews to promote my business/ events, family showed up for a surprise extended visit…. all this and work can’t stop! Can you relate? HOLLER IF YOU HEAR ME!!! lol If you have missed my blog posts or video blogs.. don’t fret! I WILL BE BACK!!!

Take time to breathe, relax, slow down, kick up your feet, go to dinner, GO TO BED! If you can’t commit to doing this often at least commit to joining me today in having a big WOOOO SAAAA moment! Promise?

Business Radio X Interview

I had a great interview on Business Radio X on Monday

So yes, this is a pretty bad pic. I told you in my previous blog post that I had a rough 10 days!! lol If you missed it, check it out here. My interview starts around the 17 minute mark 😉

Confession: When I woke up Mondaymorning I was dreading the fact that I had to go into the studio for an on air interview. I was drained! However, I got myself together and sat through the interview. Guess what the result was? THEY GAVE ME MY OWN SHOW!! Crazy, right?! My interview was conducted by the owners of the Radio X and they support what I am doing for the female entrepreneur. They offered me an opportunity to speak about entrepreneurship on their tour next year and to also host a new show about Mompreneurs! You can check out my first episode on December 5 at 10am ET. I will remind you closer to the date

Tips For a BANGIN 2015

Soon enough the end of 2014 will be here. Regardless of the goals you have accomplished, every business has room for improvement. Whether you need to restructure, restrategize or just rejuvenate your business it is time to start getting a great plan of attack underway. Here are a few “resolutions” to get you started:

Improve Marketing Efforts: What worked for you this year? Do that again in 2015, but better! What did not work? Figure out why it did not work and determine how to fix it! This will also be helpful so that you can determine your marketing budget for the 1st quarter of 2015.

Take a Course: You can never know enough about your industry, marketing or business in general. Be sure to google upcoming courses, either before the close of 2014 or the beginning of 2015 and BOOK IT NOW! Start the year with the mindset of “student” regardless of your success level.

Social Media Focus: Determine which social media outlets were the most effective for you. Also take a little scroll down memory lane! Look at your posts and see which posts got the most attention. Duplicate them in 2015 and do less of the stuff that didn’t get attention.

Customer Service: I hope you have been collecting testimonials or saving all the wonderful remarks people have shared about your business. If so now is the time to look over all of them. Read and reflect on what made those customers happy. After you figure it out get a plan together on how you can take their “happy” to a new level. How can you not just hit a home run with the particular attribute they discuss; but how can you knock it out the park in 2015?

Don’t get discouraged if you aren’t where you planned to be at the end of 2014. Now is not the time to feel sorry for yourself- you have too much to do! If you are exactly where you want to be or beyond- You Go Girl! But don’t get so comfortable with where you are now. If you fail to continue to work the way you have worked or improve the way you have improved you may find yourself back at square one! YIKES!!

What are you going to jumpstart your efforts for 2015?? I want to know..comment below!

It’s Pruning Season

It is that time of the year when the leaves fall and the trees look bare and not so pleasant anymore. However when the seasons change again after the new year, the trees come back greener and even stronger. The entire time the tree was perceived as “ugly” it was preparing for new leaves, a fresh look and a new season. Are you ready to drop some leaves and get ready for a new season?

I know I typically talk/write about business, business, business, but today I am going to take a different route and get a little personal. I hope that is ok with you 🙂 I am in no way a life coach, a therapist or anything even closely related. However as an Entrepreneur Educator, Consultant and Attorney I have seen it all when it comes to business. I tell people all the time that I see the good, the bad and the ugly of business!

One thing that I have seen consistently is that when an entrepreneur gets impatient or feels frustration in their season in life and in business they lose confidence. Maintaining confidence is key for an entrepreneur.

Here are 3 tips for my rockstar entrepreneurs to keep their confidence high & hang on through the “ugly” season:

Remain Grateful: Things may look grim in life and in business, but hang on to the good thoughts. Make a list of all your accomplishments large and small. Reflect on them daily and remember how you were able to achieve them. In addition be excited and proud of yourself for your accomplishments! Way to Go!!! (Insert virtual high five here)

Let Go: Make a list of what causes you stress in your business as well as your personal life. Whatever is on that list that you can eliminate or delegate do it ASAP! This does not apply to things like paying bills, caring for children and showering!

Same Goal; New Plan: Things may not be going the way that you would like. That does not always mean that it is time to throw in the towel. Now may be a good time to reorganize your ideas and restrategize your efforts. You may need the help of a mentor, consultant or just a great friend with amazing insight in the area which you are having difficulty. Having someone on the outside looking in with a fresh set of eyes can bring you to new levels of success. Your goal is likely driven by your passion. Don’t let go of your passion, just go in full speed and attack it from a different angle!  POW! BAM! BOOM!

Even if you are not in an “ugly” season which of these 3 techniques can you improve or implement TODAY? I’d love to know! Comment below.
